Auto Magnets: 6 Tips to Consider

Auto Magnets: 6 Tips to Consider

A set of magnetic signs for your vehicle can be an amazingly helpful advertising tool. Finding, designing, and purchasing the perfect magnetic sign really is not so difficult if you follow a few simple steps in the designing and ordering process. Here are a few tips:

1) Check the door

Check to see if a refrigerator magnet will stick to the door. If not, the door is made of fiberglass and unable to hold a magnetic car sign. Try vinyl decals instead.

2) Keep It Simple

Often customers think that the more information they put on their car door magnets, the better. This is almost never the case. The best way to get your message across is to keep it simple. Your company name, phone number, and website, along with one or two services provided are plenty of information for someone to read on a moving vehicle.

3) Full Color Graphics

It is important to remember that potential clients have an extremely limited amount of time to read the information: about four seconds. High quality, full color graphics should take the place of listing all your services on your magnets. Full color attracts attention that one and two color auto magnets no longer receive. For example: A landscaping company does not need to list mowing, pruning, gardening, etc. on black and white vehicle magnets. It looks boring, and most customers won’t have time to read all of the listed services anyway. Instead, try a visual image such as beautiful garden, yard, or even a lawnmower that quickly tells a customer what you do without putting it into words. If you don’t have access to high quality images, keep in mind that The Color Spot offers free templates.

4) File Size

That image that looks great on your business card might not look so good when enlarged to fit a car magnet. Unless you have a high resolution photo or your logo/image is in vector format, your file may become pixilated or distorted when enlarged. To find out, zoom in on your file 200%-800%. If the image doesn’t look good, then it’s not going to look good printed larger on a magnetic sign.

5) Measure Your Door

Car magnets come in a few standard sizes to fit most any vehicle. However, it’s better to measure your door before ordering to avoid getting door magnets that do not fit. Also, take into consideration any bevels and body molding. Your car door may be large enough but if there is auto molding across the middle of the door you’re not going to be able to use the entire space.

6) Be Aware of Your Options

If you want something that is more permanent, then magnetic signs may not right for you. There are numerous other options for automobile advertising; try rear window graphics, static cling, vinyl decals, or vinyl lettering to name a few.
